Thanks for viewing my boring profile! I can be pretty damn harsh reviewing submissions, but we'll get on just fine as long as your cartoon doesn't use tweened stickmen, terribly animated sprites, or involve Hitler going around the world in 80 days.

I thought this was a lot of fun to play - there are some great little touches to the combat system and you know how to animate sprites really well. It was perhaps a little short, but other than that, good job! I look forward to the next one.

I usually rate Tetris games on NG pretty low because, let's be honest, it's just the same thing over and over again. However, this one just seemed to work really well, had a decent skill level thing at the start, and is probably the first Tetris game on NG which has been suitably compressed - 64kb, for this, is very impressive.
Good job!

I am getting so fed up with this growing trend on Newgrounds of awful Flash animator groups who vomit out the same awful type of animation day after day. It's not funny, it shows absolutely no skill and it's a trend that is frankly ruining the integrity of Newgrounds as a serious portal for talented artists. You may think it's totally hilarious how idiots let this pass through the portal, but don't think that not getting blammed means you're somehow 'beating the system'. You're never going to have a huge audience, you're never going to actually achieve anything through these animations and you're just gonna be hated by anyone with the smallest amoount of intelligence.

The game is far too random to play/control, it seems almost random who ends up winning. The problem is that the ball seems to react extremely unrealistically when hitting your paddle, and you have hardly any space to move your paddle around. Still, it's not too bad, and is an interesting twist to the old Breakout formula.
One last thing - I could not for the life of me remember what the music you use was ripping off, until I remembered this video I'd seen on YouTube - search for 'Web 2.0 ... The Machine is Us/ing Us'.

You submitted this yesterday and it got blammed.
That is pretty much all that needs to be said.
Author's Response:
it didnt get blammed, i removed it myself, and there was an error in the form for letting me adjust my file, which is why i had to upload the whole thing again.

I agree with the last review - some of the jokes are extremely drawn-out and because of this they lose all impact (the worst of all was the bit with the guy holding up the signs outside the rock place). Furthermore, the cartoon seemed to sporadically cut between serious and random. Indeed, after watching the first scene I didn't even realise this was supposed to be a comedy until you had the 'should we go to the next scene now?' bit, which seemed completely out of place.
However, as a first submission this is surprisingly decent and because of this I'm not going to try and get this blammed. For example, the artwork - while certainly not award-winning - is pretty good, especially for a first-time submission. The sound is also ok, and you've actually managed to use a lot of music and speech without the filesize going above 2 megs, which is great seeing as so many first-time Flash users have no idea how to compress a movie.
So yeah, keep it up, just try and really focus on refining the jokes and the script. Comic timing is essential to making something funny and if you drag jokes out for too long or simply repeat them over and over again they stop being amusing and detract from the overall impact of the cartoon. You've made a good first try, but it's heavily flawed - work on it!

Well it sure is Tetris, but we've seen this exact same thing done better about a hundred times on Newgrounds. Furthermore, it's submissions like this that make me wish Tom Fulp had never upped the file-size limit past 5mb - this is nearly 6 megs for absolutely no reason. The code for the game itself can't possibly be more than about 300kb, and if you'd actually bothered to compress the music files I can easily see this going down to around 2mb, if that.

"One of the worst movies I've ever seen on NG"
Everything about this was terrible, from the awful music to the terrible spelling, and from the stupid, cliched plot to the terrible way you'd animated the sprites. Come on, someone else has already done the drawing for you, you could at least animate it well!
I've seen sprite movies that are technically better than this but have still been blammed because they've simply recycled the tired old 'sprite movie of Sonic fighting a rival' story. Actually come up with your own ideas and STOP USING SPRITES.

The idea behind this is good, I guess, but seeing as how the animation is designed for very young children and not the collective NG masses, I'm kinda unsure why you've submitted this here.
A few other things - it's funny this animation is about reading when you've clearly demonstrated you have problems writing. Furthermore, it's somewhat amusing that in a cartoon designed for people who can't read, there's absolutely no voice-acting, meaning that you have to - you guessed it - read the text within the animation to understand what's going on. Finally, the scenes depicted in the animation are absolutely ridiculous. Seriously, failing to put on a hard-hat in a construction site or taking a car out for a drive knowing you can't read warning signs isn't a case of illiteracy, it's a case of mental problems.
Author's Response:
Well... sure I didn't take too much time on this, it was for school, anyways I guess some people dont get its more of a joke than reality.

Thank you for reminding me why I still spend my time wading through all the crap that appears on the NG portal - because occasionally you get something brilliant like this. It's even more satisfying that this is your first submission to Newgrounds, as it shows you've clearly spent your time on something before showing it to everyone, unlike so many other new users who submit something that clearly took them all of 5 minutes to make.
So yeah - great idea for an animation, really nice drawing/animation, and a decent song to boot. Keep it up, and great job!
