Brilliant

Thank you for reminding me why I still spend my time wading through all the crap that appears on the NG portal - because occasionally you get something brilliant like this. It's even more satisfying that this is your first submission to Newgrounds, as it shows you've clearly spent your time on something before showing it to everyone, unlike so many other new users who submit something that clearly took them all of 5 minutes to make.

So yeah - great idea for an animation, really nice drawing/animation, and a decent song to boot. Keep it up, and great job!

Hilarious

I haven't reviewed anything in ages but I thought I'd take the time to say something about this one. It was brilliant, the humour was perfect and the anti-climatic ending was hilarious, and well timed. Make more!

I am almost disgusted that this currently has a 3.22 rating - this EASILY deserves to have over 4, and an award. You animating style is amazing, and you draw beautifully, so I really hope to see more from you soon.

Waaaaaaaait a minute

Hang on - a boxcar? The opening spiel by the Pilot where he's listing things off really quickly? The quick cutaway to Pilot in church? The 'letter' joke? The movie clip used for speech? The bit where the guy in the store reacts when asked if he has any smaller bills? The end joke that seems far, FAR too familiar?

I'm sorry, but all the above things are far, FAR too reminiscent of a certain Internet cartoon I used to watch a lot. Let's be honest here - you watch a lot of Bonus Stage, don't you? Even the voice you used for Phil, sorry, the blonde guy, sounds EXACTLY like how Matt Wilson voices one of his main characters.

I'm not going to be as harsh on you as I was when reviewing the God-awful, disgusting, piece of shit series 'Ski Lift Pals' (don't waste your own time finding and watching it), but you REALLY need to get your own cartoon style. The animating style itself is pretty good, and you have the ability to tell a fairly decent story, but it really is far too derivative of BS for me to rate it any higher. Even the bits that WERE funny failed to make me laugh, because I couldn't help but think 'this is just taken from Bonus Stage'.

Tylerrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr responds:

Ah. I agree with you that it is quite similar to BS. That's something I'm TRYING to get away from. But, I mean, my humor's pretty much been that way, even before one of my friends introduced me to BS a few months ago. Not much I can do there. The voice of Argyle, he was pretty much supposed to have a bit of a gruff voice (he's supposed to be some hot shot ping pong desperado or something) But that voice was so taxing on me, that it ended up degrading into that nasily type voice that it is now. Sorry if it's similar, but I'm sure that with time, I'll get my own style of sorts together. Everyone has to start somewhere.

Try again

Badly drawn and animated, and with one of those 'trying too hard to be random' scripts that really isn't very funny, imaginative, or clever. Just because you imagine having a character say stupid infantile crap like 'DUCKY DUCKY DUCKY' is going to sound totally zany and hilarious, doesn't mean it actually will.

Oh well, there are enough people on NG that find this kinda humour amusing to get this through the Portal, albeit with a rather embarrassing score.

"You're breaking my balls Fernando!"

This is fantastic, I loved it - good job!

I have watched an absolute plethora of crap on Newgrounds tonight, so this was something of a breath of fresh air. I love the concept, you've really managed to flesh it out successfully - I can easily imagine someone else trying to visualise a similar idea, but having it run dry by the end of the animation. This, on the other hand, was great throughout - I particularly liked the 'specials wheel'.

Good job!

OrigamiNugget responds:

Nice use of the word Plethora. lol. Thanks for the 9. I appreciate it. The "specials" wheel was an idea from my younger brother. I just thought up the Specials. They were (some aren't obvious) Fighter, Athlete, beat mixing ($) rocking out, math, english, Optimism, pessimism, Technology, Cooking, art, and thats all i think.. Thanks!

Brilliant

This is easily the funniest thing I've seen on Newgrounds in weeks, you get a big fat thumbs-up from me.

Good job!

ImpendingRiot responds:

Well, I'll be!

Excellent

I've got to say, I usually can't stand stickmen animations, but this was so well animated - really unusually smooth - that I couldn't help but love it. The explosions/effects were also very well-done, so yeah - great job! Do more ;)

Thank-you

You have restored my faith in the Portal. Usually when I read something like "this is my first animation" in the author's comment, this feeling of dread washes over me, and usually with good reason - but this was something entirely different from the usual 'first attempt' Flashes I see often on Newgrounds.

Other than the dodgy framerate - which you should seriously consider making higher in your next submission - this was genuinally a very good animation. Everything was drawn well, you actually used proper frame-by-frame animation which is rare even in more 'professional' Flashes, and the story was both to the point and amusing.

I am seriously impressed, especially as this is your first submission. Really well done, I look forward to seeing more from you.

Thanks for viewing my profile! I've worked for a bunch of production companies including Aardman Animations and the BBC and I post about my experiences on NG. I also created the vaguely popular Steve series which I update once every million years. Whoops!
